Guidelines for reading accessible e-books. How to benefit from mainstream Born Accessible publications

How to benefit from mainstream Born Accessible publications
06 November 2025

The Guidelines for Reading Accessible e-books, developed by Stichtig Dedicon, provide user-friendly information for persons with print disabilities on how to find, access, and enjoy Born Accessible publications using different devices, formats, and reading applications.

The document explains the growing importance of accessible e-books in the digital age and how the EAA is increasing their availability across Europe.

This increasing availability of e-books presents a significant opportunity for many persons with print disabilities to read publications and access information independently and autonomously, without the need for third-party assistance. However, this is only possible if these e-books are accessible and if readers know how to best use digital content, reading apps and e-books in particular. This guideline aims to help persons with print disabilities to understand and benefit from Born Accessible publications, which are designed to be accessible from the outset.

The APACE guidelines are available for translation into additional languages in order to facilitate their adoption across different national contexts. Organisations or stakeholders interested in translating or adapting the material are invited to contact the APACE team at apace@fondazionelia.org for further guidance and coordination.
