Accessibility pilot projects

As part of the APACE project, six Accessibility Pilot Projects were developed to explore innovative methods for producing and distributing Born Accessible publications. These pilots brought together publishers, accessibility experts, and persons with print impairments to collaborate on the creation of complex digital publications, ranging from educational and academic textbooks to illustrated and children’s books.

The main goal of the pilots was to experiment with new workflows, tools, and collaborative models that can make complex publications fully accessible.

Through this practical experimentation, the pilots have provided valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities of implementing accessibility across different publishing sectors. They have also contributed to capacity building, helping publishers adapt their production and distribution processes to meet the requirements of the European Accessibility Act (EAA).
